One of community radio’s longest-running Saturday traditions continues this weekend when John Florence hosts Saturday Sagebrush Serenade on KRCL 90.9 FM.

The program airs from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, Oct. 10. KRCL’s local schedule lists it from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Salt Lake City, which is Mountain Daylight Time.

Saturday Sagebrush Serenade has been part of KRCL since the station began in 1979. Florence uses classic rock as a starting point, but the program is shaped by rare cuts, personal stories and recurring features rather than a predictable rotation of familiar singles.

KRCL says listeners may hear the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and Joni Mitchell. The show also includes a regular John Prine corner and other rituals that have grown around Florence’s weekly presentation. Those details give the program the feeling of an appointment with a host, not access to a database.

The music can be familiar without becoming passive. A deep album track, a live recording, or the story that connects two selections can change how listeners hear an artist they thought they already knew. Florence’s voice and sequencing supply that context.

KRCL has not announced a specific theme for the Oct. 10 edition. This preview therefore describes the program’s verified weekly format without promising particular songs. The station also does not identify the coming edition as live, so it should be presented as a scheduled, human-hosted broadcast.

Listeners outside Utah can hear the program for free at KRCL.org. Open the station’s live listening page a few minutes before noon Eastern and start the stream. KRCL also offers a free mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

The app adds useful accessibility and convenience features. KRCL says listeners can pause and rewind the current stream, view the schedule, search for programs, bookmark audio, and explore on-demand content. The Saturday Sagebrush Serenade page also carries playlists and previous programs. No transcript or caption service is advertised for the music show.

If noon Saturday is inconvenient, use KRCL’s on-demand section or the app after the broadcast. Availability can vary, so the live stream remains the safest way to hear the complete new edition.

For listeners who miss the personality and surprise of locally shaped rock radio, Saturday Sagebrush Serenade offers three hours built around a host’s knowledge, not an algorithm.

Listen: Saturday, Oct. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern through KRCL’s live stream or the free KRCL app. Previous programs are available from the Saturday Sagebrush Serenade page.
