One of our primary goals here at Web Radio Info is to help listeners discover radio services that are genuinely easy to use, whether you are listening through a smart speaker, a smartphone, a computer, or any other accessible device.
Over the past few days, our Accessibility Lab has been exploring two popular UK resources: RadioTimes.com and the Radio UK app. While our deep-dive evaluation is still underway, our early experience testing these on the iPhone has been encouraging enough that we wanted to share them with our community right now, especially as we believe resources like radiotimes.com are invaluable for discovering quality radio content.
Early Impressions
Our initial testing on iOS has shown that both services are straightforward to navigate and use.
-
RadioTimes.com makes it remarkably easy to browse UK radio schedules, discover new programs, and quickly see what is currently on the air. For anyone interested in British radio, it provides an excellent way to explore stations and specific programming before you even hit play.
-
The Radio UK App offers a massive directory of UK radio stations housed within a simple interface. Finding stations and starting playback has been a very smooth experience during our initial testing.
Combined with the official talkSPORT app and website we reviewed recently, these services provide an excellent toolkit for listeners outside the UK who want to discover and enjoy British radio.
Our Testing Continues
Please note, this is not our final review!
Our Accessibility Lab is actively continuing to evaluate these services using VoiceOver and other crucial accessibility tools. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking closely at areas such as:
-
Ease of navigation
-
Screen reader compatibility
-
Background playback
-
Lock screen controls
-
AirPlay support
-
Siri integration (where available)
-
The overall listening experience
As we complete our testing, we will publish a full update and assign our official accessibility ratings.
We Would Love Your Feedback
One of the greatest strengths of the radio community is that listeners help one another. If you have already used RadioTimes.com or the Radio UK app, we want to hear from you!
-
What device are you using?
-
Which screen reader or accessibility tools do you rely on?
