The Master Guide: Audible’s New Plan and the Wondery Transition
If you are part of the WebRadioInfo community, you have probably started seeing news about major changes coming to Audible and Wondery. Amazon is consolidating much of its audio ecosystem into one platform.
Here is a clear breakdown of what is changing and what it means for listeners.
1. The New Audible Standard Plan
Audible has launched a new subscription tier called the Standard Plan. It costs $8.99 per month, roughly $6 cheaper than the Premium Plus plan.
What you get
• One audiobook per month from Audible’s catalog of more than one million titles
• Unlimited ad-free access to nearly 200 popular podcasts, including hit series like Dr. Death and Business Wars
The streaming catch
Unlike the Premium Plus plan, this is not an ownership model. Your selected audiobook is available only while your subscription remains active. If you cancel, access to that book is removed.
Who this plan is for
The Standard plan is designed for casual listeners who want to enjoy one audiobook per month and do not need to build a permanent digital library.
2. The Wondery App Is Closing
As part of Amazon’s consolidation, the dedicated Wondery app will be shut down, along with the standalone Wondery Plus subscription.
Where you will listen instead
Most Wondery Plus content is moving directly into the Audible app. Subscribers will still be able to access shows ad-free and often with early episode releases, but through Audible rather than the separate Wondery platform.
Transition offer
Current Wondery Plus subscribers should check their email. Audible is offering a special transition deal allowing them to subscribe to the Standard plan for $5.99 per month for the first year.
This offer currently expires March 10, 2026.
3. Comparing Your Listening Options
Audible Standard – $8.99/month
Best for casual listeners or former Wondery Plus users.
• 1 audiobook per month (access only)
• Ad-free Wondery podcasts and select Audible Originals
• Lower monthly price
Audible Premium Plus – $14.95/month
Best for audiobook collectors.
• 1 credit per month to purchase a book you keep permanently
• Access to the Plus Catalog with over 150,000 additional titles
• Member-only sales and promotions
Spotify Premium Audiobooks
Spotify Premium subscribers receive 15 hours of audiobook listening per month as part of their subscription. Like the Audible Standard plan, this is access-based rather than ownership-based.
What This Means for WebRadioInfo Readers
For listeners who enjoy high-quality narrative podcasts and one good audiobook per month, the new $8.99 Standard plan is likely the best value.
If you are currently a Wondery Plus subscriber, it may be worth taking advantage of the $5.99 transition offer before March 10.
For heavy audiobook listeners who want to build a permanent library, the Premium Plus plan still offers the most long-term value.
We will stay on top of this as it unfolds.
